Whether you’re a Star Wars enthusiast, a seasoned Annual Passholder, or simply seeking some after-dark thrills, May offers a captivating blend of special events, returning favorites, and even a sneak peek at what’s new.
It’s also a month to celebrate the opening of two shows.
To help you navigate these changes and make the most of your trip, we’ve compiled a list of everything open, closed, and coming soon, alongside a reminder to regularly check the official Disney World calendar for real-time updates.

Disney World May 2025
May 4, 2025 – May the 4th has been known across Star Wars Fandom as Star Wars Day and was chosen due to the pun “May The Fourth be with You.” Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have special merchandise and treats.
V.I.Passholder Summer Days 2025 – The special limited-time perks for Annual Passholders will take place starting May 14 and last through July 31 and include a Passholder exclusive lounge, extra food and merchandise discounts and experiences.
H2O Glow Nights – Returns May 23 – The Typhoon Lagoon water park parties at night with this specially-ticketed event. There is dancing on the beach, party games, special food and of course, all of the water activities. It started on May 23 through Sept. 13.
Memorial Day Weekend – May 26-28, 2025 – Disney normally uses this time to open new rides and introduce new attractions for the summer season. In the past, Disney has had summer themes and also introduced limited-time events and shows.
Disney After Hours– These separately ticketed events at Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and EPCOT have a limited number of guests allowed to stay three hours after the park closes and let you in at 7 p.m., a couple of hours before the park closes. In addition to the shorter lines because of less people, those attending can also indulge in snacks like ice cream, popcorn, and select drinks included on the ticket. Here are the nights of the events:

Hollywood Studios – May 14 and 28
Extended Evening Hours – Eligible Deluxe hotel guests can stay at some theme parks for a few hours after the official closing. Here is the schedule:
May 5 – Animal Kingdom – 8 to 10 p.m.
May 7– Magic Kingdom –10 p.m. to midnight
May 12 – EPCOT – 9 to 11 p.m.
May 14- Magic Kingdom – 10 p.m. to midnight
May 19 – EPCOT – 9 to 11 p.m.
May 21 – Magic Kingdom – 10 p.m. to midnight
May 28 – Magic Kingdom – 10 p.m. to midnight
Magic Kingdom
The Astro Orbiter – Closed for refurbishment – The Tomorrowland attraction is closed with a planned reopening in the summer of 2025.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – Closed for refurbishment – The Adventureland attraction is closed for a long refurbishment. The ride will reopen sometime in 2026.
Dumbo the Flying Elephant – Queue refurbishment – The indoor queue closed on Feb. 24 and reopen sometime during the Spring 2025. The ride remains open.
Hall of Presidents – Closed for refurbishment – The attraction is closed for changes. No reopening date has been announced.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin – Closing for refurbishment – The attraction will close in August 2025 for a lengthy refurbishment. When it reopens in 2026, it will feature a new show scene, updated ride vehicles, and gameplay enhancements.
Hollywood Studios
The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure – Reopens May 27 – This attraction is now closed for refurbishment. This show brings Ariel’s story to life with vibrant puppets, props, and scenery. Ariel, Flounder, Sebastian, Prince Eric, and others will retell the classic tale of The Little Mermaid in multiple daily performances. Audiences will enjoy familiar songs like “Under the Sea” and “Part of Your World,” as well as two new-to-this-theater musical numbers, “Daughters of Triton” and “Kiss the Girl.”
Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano – Closing Permanently– This dining experience at Grand Avenue will have its last day to dine on May 10.
Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo—Closing Permanently—Muppet*Vision 3D’s last day of operation is June 7. The closure will allow the area to be converted to Monsters Inc. land.
Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After – Debuting – On May 27, at Sunset Showcase, a new stage with advanced technology and comfortable seating hosts a unique musical experience. The Magic Mirror summons the audience to determine who among Disney’s villains has been most misunderstood. When the villains break through the Magic Mirror’s glass, they enter our world to plead their cases. This immersive show blends theatrical magic, humor, and mischievous charm as it shares its perspectives.
EPCOT
Test Track – Closed for an extended refurbishment – Test Track closed on June 16, 2024 for an extensive reimagining. It is expected to reopen in summer 2025.
EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival — March 5 to June 2, 2025 – The festival features dozens of Disney character topiaries, Outdoor Kitchens and performances during the Garden Rocks Concert Series. Here is a look at the concert lineup for March:

Water Parks
Typhoon Lagoon – Reopening – The park reopens on May 1.
Blizzard Beach – Closing for refurbishment – The park will close from May 1 and reopen May 21.
Disney Resorts
Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort – Room refurbishment work will take place from September 2024 to September 2025.
Beach Club Resort – Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts will be closed and undergo routine maintenance from January 2025 to June 2025. During this time, Guests are welcome to swim at the Tidal, Admiral and Dunes Cove leisure pools.
BoardWalk Inn and Villas – Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Disney’s BoardWalk Villas are being refurbished with new offerings; plus, updates to Guest rooms, lobby and more. While most Resort hotel amenities will remain available, you may be able to see and hear construction during daytime hours. Additionally, please allow for additional travel time. In addition, from January 2025 through May 2025, the merchandise locations along Disney’s BoardWalk will be refurbished in phases. Two merchandise locations will remain available for Guests throughout the refurbishment. During this time, Guests may see and hear construction activity in the area.
JellyRolls – Closed Jellyrolls dueling piano bar will hold its last performance on April 19.
Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge – The resort will undergo refurbishment from mid-May 2025 to September 2025. All resort amenities will remain available but guests may notice construction work during the day.
Magnolia Bend at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside – Refurbishment of the room at Magnolia Bend will take place from early April 2025 through the end of January 2026. Guests may see or hear construction work in the area. This is in addition to the work being done now at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter which will continue through Spring 2025.
Disney’s Pop Century Resort – Guest rooms will go through refurbishment from late March 2025 to mid-February 2026. All resort amenities will remain available but guests may see construction during the day
